Dr. Mark Groven, formally trained as a naturopathic physician, has dedicated over 15 years instructing physical medicine and rehabilitation. As former chairperson for the Department of Physical Medicine at Bastyr University, Dr. Groven offers an extensive background in the diagnosis and treatment of physical pain as well as a unique approach to the treatment of all musculoskeletal conditions. Over the past 24 years Dr. Groven has developed a reputation for helping the most complex patients and he continues to gain referrals from physicians in the greater Seattle area when their patients are unresponsive to other physical therapy treatments.
Dr. Jaime Mayr joined our physical therapy team in 2011 and was trained at the premier physical therapy school in the U.S., the University of Southern California. She believes the key to recovery is getting to the root of the problem and addressing the underlying cause. Her expertise in injury rehabilitation and recovery adds a dynamic facet to the rehabilitation team. By focusing on the cause of the injury, Dr. Mayr not only assists in the recovery phase, but minimizes the likelihood of reoccurrence through teaching proper biomechanics.
Our team additionally includes April Cannon, a licensed physical therapist assistant with over 8 years of experience working in rehabilitation. She has worked in a variety of outpatient orthopedic settings ranging from aquatic therapy to returning active duty military members to full duty. April also has an undergraduate degree in exercise science from Auburn University. She utilizes the knowledge and skills from both degrees to help educate patients about their injury and help them achieve their individual rehabilitation goals.
Physical rehabilitation begins with a comprehensive examination which goes beyond standard orthopedic and neurological testing. Our team has over 35 years of combined experience evaluating and treating individuals with a variety of physical complaints. Dr. Groven and Dr. Mayr use a hands-on approach to diagnosis which often uncovers subtle but important nuances that uniquely and adversely affect individual patients. Our team utilizes computerized testing to accurately assess both muscle balance and strength. The information gathered from this assessment is then used to create a specific rehabilitation program that is customized for each patient’s individual needs. Our doctors and licensed physical therapist assistant work as a team to help patients heal and drastically improve their level of function.
